POLICY/ Achieving Net Zero: a future without coal?

Ahead of the COP26 climate change conference, there have been calls to phase out coal in order to mitigate the effects of climate change and meet Net Zero commitments. However, the production of essential commodities such as iron, steel and cement currently depend on coal.

The steel industry emits between 4 and 7% of all CO2 emissions globally, and although not yet viable at scale, alternatives to coal for steel production do exist.

Join us on 18 October at 12.30pm for a free, virtual discussion on coal and our Net Zero future, in collaboration with the Institution of Environmental Sciences.
